Brian Young Obituary

Brian P. Young, a proud United States Marine Corp Veteran, passed away peacefully on Armed Forces Day May 20, 2023. Born on January 13, 1962, in Milton, MA, Brian was the beloved son of James J. Young of Milton and the late Barbara A. (Stoneck). He was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend to many and will be deeply missed.

Brian grew up in a close-knit family and was the brother of James P. Young of Taunton, Caren Berry and her husband Stephen of Cotuit, and David Young and his wife Christine of Weymouth. He was a proud and loving uncle to Sean, Natalie, Samantha, and Riley Young, who brought immense joy to his life.

After completing his education at Norfolk County Agricultural School, Brian bravely chose to serve his country as a Lance Corporal and Machine Gunner in the Marines. He was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon, where he formed strong bonds with his fellow servicemen. Tragically, while on leave to attend his mother's funeral, on October 23, 1983 the Marine Corps barracks were bombed and 220 Marines perished. It was considered the worst attack on the US military since Iwo Jima. Many of Brian's close friends and brothers were lost that day, leaving him with a heavy heart and a lifelong battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Despite his struggles, Brian never lost his love for life, family and the outdoors. He had a natural talent for landscaping. But it was his family who was paramount.

Brian was a true people person, a happy go lucky man with a warm smile and a kind heart that drew others to him. His friends and family often referred to him as a gentle giant and affectionately called him Uncle Bri. He cherished the time he spent with his family, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being above his own. He loved the ocean and his fond memories of summers at their home in Dennis. He never missed an opportunity to spend time at the beach whether it was at Wessagusset or at his sister's home on Cape Cod. He was most content at the ocean.

As we mourn the loss of Brian P. Young, we also celebrate the remarkable life he lived, and the lasting impact he had on all of us. May his gentle spirit continue to inspire us all to live with love, courage, and compassion. Rest in peace, dear Brian, knowing that you have left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know you. Semper Fi
