Arlene McDonnell Obituary

Arlene J. McDonnell (Simpson), a cherished beacon of love and kindness, departed from this world on February 28, 2025, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by the warmth of her daughter, daughter in-law & close friends. Born on February 13, 1947, in Boston, MA, Arlene's life was a testament to the joy and beauty that can be cultivated through genuine care and compassion for others.

Raised in the community of Milton, Arlene was a graduate of Milton High School. Following High School, she attended Fannie Farmer Cooking School, and honed her culinary skills. She later went on to attend Secretarial School.

Professionally, Arlene dedicated many years of service as a Secretary in the Advertising Department for the Patriot Ledger. Her meticulous attention to detail and cheerful disposition made her a beloved colleague. She cherished so much the friendships that she formed there. She also contributed her skills at the Norfolk Probate Court in Dedham until her retirement.

Arlene's passions were many genres of music and loved to dance. Often being the heart and soul of a gathering with her infectious energy. A culinary enthusiast, she enjoyed cooking for others. The tranquility of being in or on the water were cherished times. She also enjoyed her word search books, and a good game of Scrabble, often accompanied with a nice glass of wine. But above all, it was the time spent with family and close friends that she valued most in life.

Arlene was the beloved wife of the late Anthony McDonnell. She was the loving mother of Lea Mateiro and her husband John, Raeann Saari and her wife Theresa Palomo-Saari, and Julie Abboud & family. Sister to Barbara Rathbun, brother to Bob and his wife Jan, and the late Jeannie Mullaney.

Arlene's legacy is one of love, and kindness. Her life was a beautiful mosaic of the moments shared with those she held dear, and the impact of her generous spirit will be felt for generations. Her departure has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to Arlene, we celebrate a life lived with grace and generosity. Her memory will live on as a guiding light, inspiring us to embrace one another with love & compassion every day. Arlene J. McDonnell will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to dance in the lives of her family and friends, reminding us all of the beauty that exists in the simple act of caring for one another.
