Anne Hayes Obituary

Anne M. Hayes (Foster), 83, of Hingham MA passed away peacefully on November 30th.  Anne was much loved by her family and friends.

She was born to Grace and George Foster on March 8, 1938 and grew up in West Roxbury with her two younger sisters, Dorothy and Mary. Shortly after graduating Roslindale High School in 1955, Anne went to work for Ma Bell as a telephone operator. During this time, at a neighbor’s cookout, she was introduced to a young man, Peter Hayes, who quickly captured her heart.

Anne and Pete were soon inseparable and married within the year. They were married on June 16, 1962 in West Roxbury.   Their first home was in Roslindale where they began their life and started a family. Before long, Anne and Pete moved to Milton and raised five children: Kelly, Rosemary, Peter, Elizabeth, and Joseph.  Packing the car for summer weekends in Vermont and large family gatherings for Thanksgiving & Christmas were favorite times.  A low level of chaos was the norm, and Anne kept everyone moving in the right direction.  Anne went back to work at AT&T supporting the Boston office.  Her efforts to keep the office running smoothly were recognized with an “Anne Hayes” day.  A few t-shirts are still around from that fun day.

After all 5 kids had moved in many directions, Anne and Pete moved to Squantum where their home continued to be filled with their family and grandchildren. Later they moved to Hingham and Linden Ponds where they continued to enjoy an active social life and making new and treasured friends.

Anne was happiest when the house full of family and friends. She hosted countless dinners, holiday gatherings, and summer cookouts. Her family and friends will always remember the welcoming feel of her home. There was always room for one or two more at the table.  Anne avidly crocheted and knitted, making many beautiful blankets and sweaters. She had a green thumb, growing and cultivating plants and flowers, both indoors and outside. She always had a special love for her grandchildren: Katie, Patrick, Christine, Scott, Maggie, Emily, Julie, Becky, Amanda, Erin, Olivia, and David. Those who were lucky enough to know her will always feel Anne’s love and passion for family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 6th, 4:00-8:00 pm at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave. A funeral mass will be held at St, Agatha’s Church, Milton on Tuesday, December 7th, at 10:30.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Linden Ponds Resident Care Fund.
