Ann LaCortiglia Obituary

Ann Elizabeth (Sweeney) LaCortiglia, 91, passed away on January 20, 2025 with her loving family by her side. Her passing marks the end of a life filled with resilience, humor, and an immense amount of love for those she held close.

Born on June 8, 1933, Ann was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Nowell) Sweeney. One of eight children, Ann grew up in South Boston and later settled in Saugus where she raised her family.

Ann was predeceased by her husband John LaCortiglia and her son Robert E. Gustin III. She is survived by her daughter Ann Louise Gustin Lynch, her son John A. LaCortiglia and his partner Debra Martin, daughter-in-law Sally Gustin, and sister Margaret (Peggy) Sweeney Kelley. She leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews who all adored her. Ann was the sister of the late Barbara Blushi, Edward, Francis, Brian, Joseph and Mary Sweeney. She was incredibly close with her large, loving family and took great pride in her relationships with her siblings, especially her sisters.

A spirited and vivacious personality, Ann loved playing bingo and often lit up the room with her mischievous sense of humor and playful pranks.

Ann was a woman of incredible strength, faith and determination. A cancer and stroke survivor, she faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, becoming an inspiration to everyone around her. Even in the face of adversity, Ann maintained her sharp wit and remarkable memory, a testament to her unbreakable spirit. She had an extraordinary ability to recall the birthdays of every member of her large family, ensuring everyone felt loved and remembered on their special day.

Ann’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A memorial service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held on Monday, January 27th from 4:00-7:00 pm at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Avenue, Milton. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 10:30 am at St. Agatha Church, also in Milton. Burial will follow at Milton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 , or a charity of one's choice, in Ann’s memory.
