Jeremiah Bowen Obituary

Jeremiah Patrick “Jerry” Bowen age 59, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family Friday, June 14th. He was the devoted son of Bridget (Mulry) of Milton and the late John Joseph Bowen and is survived by his 3 loving sons, Jeremiah Patrick of Dorchester, Michael John and Robert Christopher, both of South Boston and their mother Christine Bowen. He was the beloved brother of Marian Bowen of Quincy, Patricia Reilly and her husband Michael of Norwood, Kathleen Bowen - Weeks and her husband Stuart of Weymouth, John Bowen of Milton and Daniel Bowen and his wife Anne of Marshfield, as well as the dear uncle of Bethany, Garrett and the late Jonathan Slyva, Christopher Reilly, Sheila Foley and her husband John, Seanna and Gabriel Weeks and Daniel and Madison Bowen. He was the proprietor of the Shannon Tavern in South Boston.

Jeremiah grew up in Milton. He graduated from St. Mary of the Hills School in Milton and Boston College High School in Dorchester. He and Christine raised their beautiful family in Braintree. His sons were the center of his world. Jeremiah worked his entire life, and could always be found at the Shannon Tavern in South Boston, which was a family run business first started by his father, and where he worked at some point with each of his three sons, his brothers, John and Dan, his cousin-brother Jerry, and many friends and loyal employees. He was a devoted son to his mother Bridget, and since his Dad passed 5 years ago, had stayed each Friday evening and night at her home, just spending time, being there with her. He loved music and singing along to his favorite songs. He loved watching old movies and reading the daily newspaper. He loved spending summer days at a lake in Douglas, MA and dreamed of owning a small ranch house on a lake where his sons and their families would visit him some day.

Jeremiah was a larger than life kind of person. He loved people, was a loyal friend, and could talk to anyone, having the ability to make each person feel significant and important. He literally spoke to each and every person who passed him by, often to the embarrassment of the person he was with. He was a man of hopes and dreams, and prior to his death was overseeing construction of a three condo building alongside the Shannon Tavern. He was a traditionalist. He had a strong faith and love for God. He said grace before every meal and blessed himself when passing a church, the cemetery and his alma mater, B.C. High. Jeremiah had a huge heart, filled with fun and joy, kindness and compassion. He was a singularly unique and special person, who will be forever missed.
